I’ve been asked by my friend and fellow creative, Cathy Pascual of Catshy Crafts to answer questions about what makes me tick…here’s my version of “behind the scenes”.
Question 1: What’s your two to three sentence bio? (You know, what the heck do you do?)
I devise, design, and create repurposed vintage and found object jewelry, inspired by my Grandma Kathy who made jewelry and passed down all her beads and tools to me. I like to call myself “Chief Jewelry Engineer”.
Question 2: What’s your favorite part of your job?
Shopping for vintage hardware, bits, and baubles at reuse and thrift stores.
Question 3: What’s your least favorite part of your job?
Keeping track of inventory…ugh!
Question 4: What are the top three tools you use the most in your work?
Grandma Kathy’s needle-nose pliers and round-nose pliers (makes me smile every time I pick them up!), Ott-Lite (can’t see without it!)
Question 5: What business goal would you love to reach before the end of the year?
Make twice as much as I did last year.
Question 6: Who are three creatives that inspire you?
Question 7: What do you listen to (if anything) while you work?
Question 8: Morning person or night owl?
Morning person…it is physically impossible for me to sleep in.
Question 9: How many employees do you have and what are the main things they do for you?
None. However, when my son was 11, he crowned himself Chief Financial Officer (he even made business cards for himself!) and entered all my expenses and income into Excel. Best statement ever from an 11-year-old, “Mom, you spend way more than you make.” Uh oh…reality check!
Question 10: What’s your favorite social media platform?
Instagram…love being able to post a photo and share with other platforms.
Question 11: What’s your least favorite social media platform?
Twitter…it goes by too fast.
Question 12: What works best when it comes to marketing your business?
Face-to-face with folks at craft shows…I love telling the story of Grandma Kathy to anyone who’ll listen!
Question 13: What’s one thing about your business that your blog readers probably don’t know?
People read my blog?
Question 14: If your business were a fashion accessory, what would it be?
Ummm, hello! A repurposed vintage necklace with an old rusty hinge of course!
Question 15: What’s your top tip for someone who wants to do something similar to you for a career?
G.E.T. O.U.T. T.H.E.R.E. Don’t be afraid to share your creations and who you are!
